The world’s largest green methanol facility has been built in Kassø near Aabenraa. Developed by energy company European Energy in partnership with Japan’s Mitsui & Co., the plant converts green electricity from a nearby solar park into climate-friendly fuel. It is the first industrial-scale facility of its kind.
With a production capacity of 42,000 tonnes of green methanol annually, the plant supports key players in their green transition. The fuel is used by, among others, the container vessel Laura Maersk, which is designed to run on methanol.
